Born in Nanaimo and raised in Qualicum Beach, Adreanna is an original ‘Island Girl’! Her husband is quick to point out that she is both modern and Victorian at heart. A self-proclaimed ‘wordie’,  Adreanna is writer of poetry, particularly fond of haiku and tanka; as well as a lover of classics, from the Victorian novel and Romantic poets’ era. She is passionate about literacy and all aspects of teaching English and Literature.

Libraries, reading and writing have been focal points throughout Adreanna’s life. She is thrilled to have worked for the Vancouver Island Regional library, as a Page through her schooling yeas and then, as a Library Assistant. She’s worked in almost every Vancouver Island Branch so you may have seen her at the following branches: Wellington, Nanaimo North, Parksville and/or Qualicum Beach!

Even before graduating with Honours from Kwalikum Secondary School, Adreanna knew she wanted to help as many children as she could who were ‘falling through the cracks’ and therefore,  struggling to succeed and thrive in school. As a result, she is proud to have been a private tutor of  80+ students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in Reading, Spelling, Writing, English, French, Math, Science, Socials, Law & Study Skills.

She brings with her extensive experience working with students that have learning difficulties including dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, as well as students doing correspondence, home-schooling, ESL, and adult-learning. One form of tutor training is in Orton-Gillingham methods. This method is a multi-sensory sequential phonics approach for reading/spelling, with a focus on dyslexia & learning/processing differences/styles. So she can help those just learning to read, all the way up to those preparing for their grade 12 English final exam!

Recently, Adreanna completed the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s Mental Health First Aid basic training course. This course greatly increased her knowledge in regards to alcoholism, addictions, anxiety disorders, depression, psychosis and how to support someone dealing with any of these issues or problems on a first response/crisis/front line basis. She certainly brings a lot to the mindset piece of The Twist!

Adreanna is also a writer and an editor. She is a member of a Nanaimo writing group that has self-published four poetry anthologies! Her editing work includes a local author’s children’s books and her step-daughter’s book about their beloved family cat.

Like Anne of Green Gables is ‘Anne with an E’, she is ‘Adreanna with an E’, too, which stands for a few of her personality traits: enthusiastic, energetic and empathetic. Very organized, conscientious, kind, caring and compassionate, she is glad her career path has allowed her help where she feels help is needed most.

In her personal life, Adreanna is a cat-mom of SPCA rescues and a stepmom. A lifelong beach girl and gardener, her favourite getaway with her husband is to Cox Bay, Tofino. She is an admirer of all the blooms and natural beauties of Vancouver Island!
