Tips\u00a0for Studying<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n

Use these questions to start a conversation NOW with your son\/daughter about their upcoming exams!<\/p>\n

By asking your child the following\u00a0questions, you can give them the solutions found below each question!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Study Schedule:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s look at your exam schedule. And now, where is your study schedule?\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

-Yes! Your child needs a study schedule!<\/p>\n

-When your child has a study schedule this will boost their confidence and reduce pre-exam stress as one knows they\u00a0are\u00a0prepared!<\/p>\n

-Ensure that there is time built in for fun and relaxation so that your child avoids burning out.<\/p>\n

-As well, short breaks during longer study sessions should be built in as short breaks keeps one feeling refreshed.<\/p>\n

-One should avoid checking your texts or\u00a0Facebook, as a few minutes could easily turn into an hour!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Learning Style:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat kind of learner are you?\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

-Knowing this will help a child understand how to organize their work and their studying and HOW they should best study! This most likely won\u2019t be the singular way that is \u201ctaught” in the classroom.<\/p>\n

3. Study Methods<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

-For example, each child, based on their learning style, will want to use a different method to summarizing their classroom notes. A visual learner would want to use illustrations, different coloured pens, a mind map,\u00a0coloured index cards, highlighters, etc. A auditory learner would want you to sit down and have a conversation with them about the material or perhaps present it over dinner!<\/p>\n

-Studying for the right learning style is key. A learner who is visual is not going to be that successful if they just read their textbook and notes over.<\/p>\n

4. Food & Water<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat food and drinks do we have or need to help you get through your exam period?\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

-Keeping in mind that one\u00a0shouldn\u2019t drink too much coffee, tea or fizzy drinks and should eat healthily and regularly. Your brain will thank you!<\/p>\n

-Also, drugs, alcohol and energy drinks should be avoided.<\/p>\n

-Ensuring that there are healthy snacks and water on hand is key!<\/p>\n

5. Exercise\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow can we build\u00a0exercise into your schedule?\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

–\u00a0Exercise\u00a0boosts energy, clears the\u00a0mind and reduce feelings of stress. Exercise also helps one to feel\u00a0calm and balanced, improves concentration levels, and helps one\u00a0to sleep better.<\/p>\n

-A highly active child should still go to their regularly scheduled extra- curricular activities! Yoga, pilates, meditation,\u00a0tai chi or other\u00a0relaxation techniques are very\u00a0beneficial. As is, simply\u00a0going for a walk!<\/p>\n

Imagine giving your child the tools to successfully create healthy habits for themselves when going through a stressful time :)! If you\u2019ve followed the above five tips, you\u2019ve done just that!<\/p>\n
