This blog post will dispel some of the myths about tutoring and set you on the path to success.

Everyone is Different

If you feel dumb for not understanding a certain subject, just remember everyone is different. Some students might be wizards when it comes to tackling math problems, but those same people might need help writing essays. We can’t expect to naturally pick up every new concept with ease, and this is something we need to remind ourselves of more often than we normally do.

It’s easy to assume some students just ‘get it’ while others are destined to struggle forever. This isn’t the case! Proficiency in anything takes a lot of hard work and practice. Some students feel more stimulated by and engaged in certain subjects, so studying those areas might feel less like work than it might to other students. That doesn’t mean you’re dumb for not understanding.

If a subject or concept feels like a struggle, our tutors would be happy to help. Our tutors know exactly how to accommodate differences in learning, and they can help find what works best for you. It’s never too late to get started on the path of learning.

Tutors Accommodate Every Learning Style

Many people think tutoring is just for students who aren’t very smart, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone is smart in their own way. Traditional classrooms don’t often allow you to see that because they usually teach the curriculum according to one learning style. This can leave people wondering if they’re dumb for not grasping what the teacher is saying.

You’re not dumb! Of the four learning styles (visual, auditory, read/write, and kinesthetic), public schools usually teach the core subjects with read/write techniques. This practice only resonates with a small percentage of people. Students who thrive using other methods can end up feeling lost as a result.

If you find yourself asking, “am I dumb if I need a tutor?” just remember your brain is craving a different way of learning. A tutor can help you find which ways work best for you, and this will set you back on the right track. Learn more about the learning styles here.

Tutoring is a Great Supplement to Learning

Tutoring isn’t just for students who find themselves struggling in school. Some students simply wish to get ahead in their studies. Others want to ask deeper questions and explore their subjects in ways the classroom environment can’t provide.

No matter your goals as a student, our tutors can help you achieve them. Tutoring can take your learning to the next level and help you feel satisfied with your school life. If this sounds like a dream come true, we’d love to help!

Tutoring Isn’t Just for School

Although many people choose to hire a tutor when they need help with schoolwork, others just want to improve upon certain life skills outside of school. As part of the ‘twist’ at Tutoring…With A Twist*, our twisted tutors are more than happy to help with organization, time management, confidence, and other important things they don’t necessarily teach in school.

Before you ask, “Am I dumb if I need a tutor to help with organization?” the answer is no! Everyone has different needs and things they would like to improve on, and that’s totally OK. They might feel like they’re dumb or that they shouldn’t need a tutor in order to understand something. However, tutoring is nothing to feel ashamed about.

Instead of feeling ashamed about seeking the help of a tutor, you should feel proud for wanting to invest in your own development. Making an effort toward self-improvement is an admirable endeavour, and you should feel great about it. Even though we like to think we can, sometimes we have to accept we can’t do everything by ourselves. The best part? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that!

Once you change your mindset regarding what it means to have a tutor, you’ll start to feel good about seeking help. We’re all in this together, and it’s nice to help each other out where we can. It’s not a one-sided exchange either. Our tutors have learned a lot from their students over the years, and they’re always happy to learn even more.

Who would’ve thought you might know something a tutor doesn’t? Turns out you’re not as dumb as you thought! In fact, you’re not dumb at all.

You’re Not Dumb for Needing a Tutor

There’s nothing wrong with seeking the help of a tutor. Our twisted tutors work with a wide variety of people for a ton of different reasons, and none of them are dumb! So, next time you find yourself asking, “Am I dumb if I need a tutor?” just remember the answer is NO.

Contact Us

If you think tutoring might be the perfect fit for you, we’d love to hear from you!
