Jackie
Our Capacity to Learn is Limitless!
Jackie is a person who believes in lifelong learning. For her, education is not a way to prepare for ‘real life’, but it is life itself. In her opinion, one of the best things we can do for ourselves is figure out the way we learn and what works for us. For this reason, she is committed to helping others develop their personal repertoire of learning strategies.
Jackie started out studying criminology at Simon Fraser University (SFU) because she felt a drive to help people in need. Along the way, she discovered a passion for linguistics and studying human language development, specifically second language acquisition. She realized that English as a Second Language (ESL) learners are similarly in need, especially newcomers to Canada. This motivated her to pursue a certification as a Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Following this, she advanced her education by earning a Masters at Carleton University, which included a higher level Certificate In The Teaching Of English As A Second Language (CTESL) certification, with a specific focus on language-learning strategies.
Jackie is one of the first points of contact when you call Tutoring…With A Twist and she is also one of our Academic Advisors who facilitate our Team Academic Meetings! As a former Twisted Tutor with us, she is excited as gets supports families in a different way – either when they call in or when the team (families, learners and tutors) meets to develop personalized learning plans.

In Jackie's own words:"What the 'Twist’ means to me is that tutoring should be as unique as the learner. In my opinion, one size fits none. Multiple methods and learning strategies are necessary to navigate the winding road to success. A tutor’s focus should be on helping the learner to identify what works for them to achieve their goals."
