Ray is a longtime tutor with a passion for teaching STEM subjects through an inquiry-based learning (IBL) approach. He strives to build genuine understanding with his students, veering away from the reliance on rote memorization so often seen in the classroom. He believes that tutors should act as patient guides, not lecturers, aiming to empower learners to think critically and solve unfamiliar problems, and it all begins with asking questions!

Ray has 7 years of experience tutoring both regular curriculum and International Baccalaureate (IB) math and science, first starting when he founded an IB tutoring club at his high school, and then becoming Twisted Tutor in 2022. He is a four-time teaching assistant at the University of British Columbia, instructing 1st and 2nd year Chemistry and Pharmacology courses. Ray is also a volunteer with Let’s Talk Science, a national non-profit science outreach organization, where he coordinates visits and presentations to local K-12 schools to inspire the next generation of STEM students. Teaching is not just a job for Ray; it is his passion.

Ray graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Honours Pharmacology from the University of British Columbia after completing his thesis on Alzheimer’s Disease. Now, he is working towards his dream of obtaining an MD and becoming a doctor and professor. Outside of his academic and professional life, Ray enjoys spending his time on creative pursuits as a videographer, Dungeons & Dragons player, and musician.

In Ray's own words:For me, “The Twist” represents the understanding that learning is a holistic, individual process that is present in all aspects and stages of our lives. We are all learners, with different aspirations and paths that have led us to where we are now. As a tutor, I strive to empower my students with skills that complement their own learning styles and ones they can take forward as lifelong learners.
