Tara’s teaching experience spans three countries and a diverse range of students from ages five to adults, providing her with a strong understanding of child development and the ability to adapt instruction to meet varied learning needs. Most recently, she taught in Hamilton, New Zealand, where she deepened her understanding of Indigenous perspectives through learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and Māori culture. This experience strengthened her commitment to creating equitable and inclusive learning experiences where all students feel valued, respected, and supported.

Throughout her career, she has designed and implemented curriculum-aligned instruction, assessed student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessment practices, and collaborated closely with families, specialists, and school administrators to support student success. By identifying individual learning needs and providing differentiated instruction and targeted interventions, she has helped students make meaningful academic, social, and emotional progress. Her experience includes supporting English Language Learners, facilitating small-group instruction, implementing remedial programs, and communicating student achievement and learning goals with parents and educational teams.

Prior to relocating to New Zealand, she taught in Eugene, Oregon, where she worked with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. In addition, her two year service as a United States Peace Corps Youth Development Volunteer in Morocco further developed her cultural competency, adaptability, and commitment to fostering inclusive learning communities. These experiences have strengthened her ability to build positive relationships with students and families from a wide range of backgrounds.

In Tara's own words:Everything I do with students stems from a mutual respect and understanding. Teaching and learning is all about relationships and this is the first step with any student who is struggling. Kids feel empowered when they feel heard and understood; we don’t want to learn from someone who we feel doesn’t understand us. Once I have established a strong rapport with a student, then we make a plan together and set goals for our learning and teaching journey. This is a twist on thoughts about teaching as the learner simply receiving information. I include kids in their own learning and plan and work together as a team.
