Project Based Learning

Project Based Learning informs the way our individualized tutoring programs are structured.
Project-Based Learning (PBL) provides complex tasks based on challenging questions or problems that involve a student’s abilities in the areas of:

  • problem solving,
  • decision making,
  • investigative skills, and
  • reflection that includes tutor facilitation, but not direction.

Each project is unique, and the possibilities are endless! You, your child, and your tutor collaborate to design an appropriate project that is at once challenging and exciting. As your child works through their project, the tutor will be there every step of the way to help guide them and provide feedback as they make progress.

Your child has choice in the projects, so they will feel more invested in the process and the outcome. It is not a repeat of what they are already doing in school. The process and results are tied into real life; there is recognizable legitimacy in doing it (it’s not just another worksheet). The outcome can be multi-subject targeted. Since your child is working with the tutor each step of the way, they will receive constant evaluation and get to see their results immediately.

PBL is a different teaching technique that promotes and practices new learning habits in students. With PBL, students learn from their experiences and apply them to their lives in the real world. This is how we guarantee success beyond the classroom.
